A Look At Child Sexual Abuse
Abstract
This investigation aims to analyze the sexual abuse on children, residents in Cuban provinces of Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana. The main purposes are to examine the phenomenon of primary victimization in order to make prevention proposals. Definitions about victimization, victim, crime, child sexual abuse, social control and prevention strategies, are used with the purpose of facilitating a better understanding of the content. The national and international legal framework for child protection was also revised, especially documents referring the safeguard of sexual indemnity of children. The author considered data on child sexual abuse, which have been denounced in the above-mentioned provinces in 2018, and received at the Child Protection Center, located in Havana. This study includes the result of interviews and meetings, with professionals working at the Child Protection Center in Havana and other specialists of the criminal justice sector, to identify factors directly linked with child sexual victimization. This paper concludes with some proposals on preventive measures to be implemented by social control agents, aimed to contribute to the mitigation and eradication of child sexual victimization in those regions.
